Awards for Excellence in Urban Transport
Guidelines & Selection Process
- The proposal for award will be considered only for those projects/plans proposed by the city/parastatal which have been either implemented fully or substantially. In order to give time to the cities for implementation of Comprehensive Mobility Plans, awards for CMPs will be implemented a few years hence.
- The Award for Overall Excellence in Urban Transport in a City would be based on the progress of implementation of various facets of National Urban Transport Policy and mainly the following :
- Whether implementation of a Comprehensive Mobility Plan is in progress.
- Whether a citywide public transport system has been planned and is being introduced as per an approved program.
- Whether intermodal and seamless connectivity is a part of item (b)
- Whether facilities for NMT are being provided as part of item (b)
- Whether benchmarking of Service Level Benchmarks on Urban Transport has been done and what is the improvement thereof.
- Projects selected for awards in previous years would not be eligible for awards again.
- A committee or a group of members of the ‘Awards Committee’ would undertake a visit to the city/cities being considered for the award of Overall Excellence in Urban Transport in a City to help get first-hand knowledge of the achievements claimed by the city in support of their entry for the awards in this category.
- The last date for submission of forms is 31st August 2010.

- The awardees will be selected by a committee of experts constituted by the Ministry of Urban Development, Government of India.
